NDU Graduates Seventy (70) New Nurses
Develop Exponential Minds for Exponential Possibilities. This was the powerful message to graduating Nurses by the Dean of Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Niger Delta University Prof (Mrs) Izibeloko Jackkide at the 5th Induction Ceremony of seventy (70) new Nurses held  at the Main Auditorium on April 30, 2019.The nursing profession like other professions , she said, has been revolutionized by technology. She cited the case of the Qualcomm Tricorder , a low cost medical device that is capable of diagnosing 13 medical conditions independent of a medical personnel and the trend towards DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) revolution  where malaria, HIV and pregnancy test etc could be done at the convenience and comfort of home. Added to these technological developments, she continued, are the emergence of new diseases and the increasing awareness of patients towards their rights to quality healthcare. All these developments mean that the old model of nursing education and practice have to be revisited to position itself for the changing times. She urges graduating nurses to politic and makes their voice heard to influence health policies and the glass-ceiling effect that stunts their career growth and finally to remember the vision, mission and philosophy of their alma matter. The Induction Lecture entitled "Nursing Leaders Core Values: Emerging Nurse Leaders in the 21st Century" was delivered by Dr (Mrs) Gift Cornelius Timighe, Deputy Director, Nursing Services at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) while the Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Alhaji Faruk  Abubakar,  administered the Oath of the Nursing Profession .The well attended occasion was chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo. In attendance were Principal Officers, Provost of the College of Health Sciences,  Deans of Faculties, Directors , amongst others.
