NDU Condoles Lulu-Briggs Family

NDU Condoles Lulu-Briggs Family The Management of NDU on Friday, January 25 2019 paid condolence visit to the Lulu-Briggs family at Port Harcourt over the passing away of their patriarch and icon, High Chief Dr O B Lulu-Briggs OON, DCF, DSSRS. In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo recounted the numerous ways the late High Chief used this Foundation (he Lulu Briggs Foundation) as a powerful platform to touch the lives of people, communities and instit utions through various scholarships and infrastructure interventions. The Niger Delta University, the Vice Chancellor said, is a beneficiary of the Lulu Briggs Foundation, with a 64-room students hostel facility, which was named after him; and also honored him with a honorary doctorate degree. He urged the family to take solace in the fact that the patriarch lived a fulfilled life and prayed for the repose of his soul. Chevron Donates Classroom Block to NDU

As part of social responsibility to host communities, Chevron Agbani Deep Water Group donated a classroom block to NDU Demonstration Secondary School. The classroom block consists of classrooms, laboratories, library and offices. Officials of the Company visited the University to finalize arrangements for the implementation of the project. The Vice-Chancellor Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo in his remarks, was appreciative of the Company's kind gesture and urged them to collaborate with and support the University to take it to greater heights.

US Embassy Donates CROSSROADS Magazine to NDU

The US Embassy recently donated thirty (30) copies of the Special Edition of the CROSSROADS magazine to the Niger Delta University. The CROSSROADS magazine is a quarterly publication of the Public Affairs Section of the US Mission in Nigeria. It promotes sports, cultural, entertainment, educational and entrepreneurial activities that are of interest to the youth.

CBN Donates Journal to NDU

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has donated copies of their statistical flagship journal, the Central Bank of Nigeria Journal of Applied Statistics to the Main Library of NDU as part of enriching and promoting research in the University. The donation was made by the Director of Statistics Department of the CBN, Dr M M Tamala.

NDU Management Team Visits NCDMB

The Management Team of NDU has paid courtesy call on the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) at Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The reason for the visit, according to Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo, who led the University Management Team, was to thank the Secretary for the existing cordial relationship between the Board and the University and to further explore more areas of collaboration. The Board as part of its collaboration with the University had donated an Econometrics Laboratory to the University and also had sent Artisans for training at the University Entrepreneurship Centre. In his remarks, the Executive Secretary Engr Simbi Kesiye Wabote thanked the NDU Team for the visit and promised to seek areas where the University could bring its expertise to assist the Board in realizing its core mandate.

The Chemical Society of Nigeria, Bayelsa Chapter, has honored some of their members who have distinguished themselves and contributed immensely to the development of Chemical Sciences in society with Service / Special Awards, The long list of awardees include Prof Donbebe Wankasi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Engr Dr Erepamo Osaisai, Former Chairman/CEO, Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Dr Nimibofa Ayawei, Executive Chairman, Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue, and Prof Ayabaemi J Spiff, amongst others.   Prof Ayabaemi J Spiff was given special recognition and award by renaming the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) Bayelsa Annual Lecture and Award series as Prof Ayebaemi J Spiff Annual Lecture and Award Series. Notable achievements in her citation include being the 1st female PhD degree holder in Chemistry in the whole of Eastern Region and the 2nd in Nigeria, a doyen and mother of Chemistry, who has contributed so much to the practice of Chemistry in Nigeria. NDU bid for Hosting of RSIF Scholars

NDU bid for Hosting of RSIF Scholars The Niger Delta University has formed a committee to respond to the call for applications to bid for the hosting and training of PhD scholars. In constituting the committee, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Samuel G. Edoumiekumo reminded them of the importance of the task as it has the potential of advertising the University at the global stage as a centre of excellence Competitive bidding is open to universities in sub-Sahara Africa and must have proven capacity and expertise (by showing demonstrable evidence to train high quality PhDs) in any of the following areas: ICT (Big data and Artificial Intelligence; Food Security /Agribusines; Minerals, Mining and Materials Engineering; Energy including renewables; and Climate Change PhD scholars will be funded by the Regional Scholarship and Innovative Fund (RSIF) at universities approved by the Fund. NDU Conducts Screening Test for Bayelsa State Civil Service Job Seekers The second phase of the selection process for employment into the Bayelsa State Civil Service took place at the ICT Centre, Niger Delta University from December 20-21, 2018. About 5,000 applicants vying for 1,000 positions presented themselves for the screening test which includes questions drawn from the applicant's specialist areas. The selection process started with about 12,000 applicants. Phase one of the selection process pruned it down to about 5,000. The Government of Bayelsa State had approved the recruitment of 1,000 qualified graduates into the Civil Service as part of reforms to reposition it for greater efficiency and productivity.
