NDU Hosts Nigerian Students Poetry Prize (NSPP) Awards Ceremony

The 4th Edition of the Nigerian Students Poetry Prize Award Ceremonies and Unveiling of Anthology on Top 100 Poems took place on Saturday, July 6 at the Main Auditorium of the Niger Delta University. In his opening remarks, the President, Poets in Nigeria Initiative, Eriata Oribhabor thanked the Vice Chancellor Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo and his Management Team for their uncommon reception. He listed some of the uncommon support in the areas of publishing the anthology of 100 poems of the NSPP 2019, accommodation for 10 poets, logistics support and light refreshment for guests. The Philosophy of the NSPP idea the President further stated was to develop awareness in poetry reading, writing and performance in students in Nigerian tertiary educational institutions and pleaded with various levels of government and ministries to ignite and sustain such interests by providing the necessary facilities. Awards were given in several categories. Mr Ogugua Micah Okoye of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu won the 1st Prize.  Awards of Recognition and Appreciation were given to the Vice Chancellor and the University. Patron and Grand Patron Awards were given to two distinguished Nigerians Very Rev Prof Christian Anieke, a Nigerian Roman Catholic Priest and Vice Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and Mr Thomas Ebikabowei Peretu
