The 36th Inaugural Lecture of the Niger Delta University took place on April 17, 2019 at the University's Main Auditorium. Speaking on the topic "Viruses: Ignored, Neglected, Poorly Understood with Resulting Devastating Consequences", the Guest Lecturer, Kemebradikumo D Pondei, a professor of Medical Microbiology (Virology) at the College of Health Sciences , explained the seriousness of the threat of viruses. Viruses, he said are troublesome non-cellular organisms; they present many diagnostics and treatment challenges; are fatal and deadly as they invade and destroy cells in the body and is a major cause of most public health crises and hazards such as the Spanish Flu (after the 1st World War that claimed about 10% of the World Population by then) and recent outbreaks like Monkey Pox, Zika, Lassa Fever, Bird Flu, Rabies, Polio, Mumps, Measles, Yellow Fever, Ebola and even many cancers, just to mention a few. This is a positive development for the Faculty of Management Sciences and would contribute in no small measure in building a good image for Niger Delta University. In addition the initiative of starting an academic journal in the Faculty will provide more avenue for scholars to publish their research findings and again recognition. Kudos to the Faculty.
