Brace Up for the Nano Age Revolution, NDU DON urges Leaders

"Small is the New Big: Nanos will Rule the Future..It may very well turn out that the biggest discovery in human history is also the smallest." These are some of  the remarks contained in a clarion call to leaders of thought to embrace Nano Technology, a great innovative and potentially transformative technology that would radically change how society works. The call was made by Ezekiel Dixon Dikkio,  a professor of Physical Chemistry, at the 35th Lecture entitled ''NANO NANO NANO", of the Inaugural Lecture Series of the Niger Delta University  held on March 20, 2019 at the Main Auditorium. Nano Technology the learned Professor said was heralding the birth of the Nano Age that would begin between 2025 and 2050 bringing to an end the Information Age era. He listed promising and stable Nano Technology applications in many areas  such as nano cars, nano Bible, nano beans, nano finance, nano beer, nano credit, nano manufacturing, etc and urged leaders of thought to embrace the technology to bring solutions to the myriads of problems facing humankind in the areas of poverty alleviation, clean water and sanitation, climate change, affordable and clean energy, efficient and affordable medical practices amongst others. He also challenged universities and research institutions to take the lead in nano technology research to discover more areas of applications. The concept Nano, derived from Greek and Latin roots,  the Professor explains, refers to a dwarf and Nano Technology refers to the growing trend towards developing very tiny but efficient and powerful technologies. The well attended lecture was chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Samuel G Edoumiekumo, Principal Officers, Deans of Faculties, Directors, and the general public.
